Integrated machinery lines · Task

Restart the line after a zone stop in the labeling zone

Use this procedure when zone Z2 (labeler and inspection) was stopped because a guard door was opened — for example to remove a fallen bottle — and the rest of the line waits. It brings Z2 back first and then lets the line controller restart the line in the right order.

Labeler, Inspection and reject

Goal

Zone Z2 runs again and the line controller has restarted RL-1 in Execute.

Time needed

About 5 minutes

Before you start

  • You are trained and authorized to operate RL-1.
  • The line HMI shows “Zone stop Z2”; no emergency stop is active.
  • The work inside Z2 is finished. Work that needs tools or goes beyond removing loose bottles requires lockout according to the line’s instructions for use.

You need

  • Line HMI at the end of Z2
  • Reset button at the Z2 access panel

Safety

Warning

Unexpected start-up of the labeler or the infeed star wheel

Crushing and cutting injuries to hands inside zone Z2.

  • Make sure nobody is inside Z2 before you close the last door.
  • Never reach through an open door while the zone is being reset.

Caution

Bottles pushed forward when the upstream buffer restarts

Broken glass or falling bottles at the transfer to the labeler.

  • Remove all fallen or tilted bottles from the transfer conveyor before the reset.

Steps

  1. Check Z2 from outside for people, tools and loose bottles.

Look through all windows of the zone, including the inspection tunnel.

  2. Close all guard doors of Z2.

Result: The door indicators at the access panel turn from red to white.

  3. Press the reset button at the Z2 access panel.

The reset button is outside the zone with a full view of it; pressing it doesn’t start anything.

Result: The guard locking engages and the HMI shows “Z2 ready”.

  4. Acknowledge the zone stop message on the line HMI.

Result: The message moves to the history list. Z2 is in Idle.

  5. Select “Restart line” on the line HMI and confirm.

The line controller restarts the machines from the end of the line toward the filler, so that each machine has space before product arrives.

Result: The palletizer, case packer and Z2 go to Execute first; the filler follows when the buffer ahead of the labeler is below “buffer full”.

  6. Watch the first bottles passing the inspection.

Result: The reject rate on the HMI stays below 1 %. If it doesn’t, stop Z2 and check the label position.

Done

RL-1 is back in Execute. The zone stop and the restart are logged in the line history with time and user.
