In one sentence

AI guardrails explained: the filters, checks and rules that keep AI output safe, on-topic and on-brand.

Example

A product assistant refuses questions outside its product scope, masks serial numbers in logs and hands safety-critical questions to a human support agent.

Why it matters on your learning path

  • Technical writers: Define which topics the assistant may answer and where it must point to the official documentation.
  • Technical marketers: Brand guardrails prevent off-tone answers and unapproved claims.
  • Technical project managers: Guardrails are requirements: document them and test them in evaluation.
  • Developers: Layer guardrails (system prompt, input and output checks, permissions); none is sufficient alone.
