Maintenance operations management
German: Instandhaltungsmanagement
In ISA-95 / IEC 62264, maintenance operations management is one of the four main categories of manufacturing operations management at Level 3. It covers the activities that coordinate, direct and track the functions that maintain equipment, tools and related assets, so that they are available for manufacturing, including planned, preventive, corrective and condition-based maintenance.

- Standards
In one sentence
In ISA-95, maintenance operations management covers the Level 3 activities that plan, dispatch and track the maintenance of equipment and assets.
Example
Maintenance operations management schedules the inspection of filler 3 into the next product changeover and records the work order result against the equipment.
How it applies
- Engineering: IEC 62264-3 describes this category with the generic activity model: resource management, definition management, detailed scheduling, dispatching, execution management, data collection, tracking and performance analysis.
- Maintenance: Work requests, scheduling, dispatching, execution records and maintenance performance analysis all belong to this category; see also Maintenance planning.
- Project management: Assigning the activities of this category to specific systems, such as an MES or a specialized application, clarifies responsibilities and interfaces.
- Documentation: System documentation should state which activities of this category a system performs and which data it exchanges with other Level 3 systems and the ERP. Using the standard's activity names helps readers compare systems and specifications.
Maintenance operations management vs. maintenance strategy
A Maintenance strategy decides the approach to maintaining assets. Maintenance operations management is the set of Level 3 activities that carry out and track the work.
