SIMIT simulation
Also known as: SIMIT, Siemens SIMIT
German: SIMIT-Simulation
In industrial automation, SIMIT is a Siemens simulation platform used to simulate plant behavior, signals and field devices for testing automation software, particularly for virtual commissioning and operator training. SIMIT simulation refers to tests and models built with this platform.

In one sentence
SIMIT is a Siemens simulation platform for testing automation software against simulated plants, used for virtual commissioning and training.
Example
The integrator connects the virtual controller to a SIMIT model of the bottling plant and runs the start-up sequence before the hardware arrives.
How it applies
- Engineering: Engineers model signals, devices and process behavior and couple the model to real or virtual controllers, so control software can be tested without the plant.
- Commissioning: SIMIT models are used in Virtual commissioning and Digital factory acceptance tests to find errors early.
- Training: Simulated plants allow operators to practice start-up, shutdown and fault handling without risk to people or equipment.
- Documentation: The documentation team records the model and software versions used for tests and can use the simulation to capture HMI screenshots and check operating instructions before the plant is available.
SIMIT vs. generic simulation
Simulation is the general method; SIMIT is one product that implements it for automation testing. Other vendors offer comparable tools.
Keep in mind: Product names, editions and features change. Check the current capabilities, supported controllers and licensing against the vendor's current documentation.
