Teach-in
Also known as: Teaching, Online programming, Lead-through programming
German: Teach-in
In robotics, teach-in is the online programming method in which positions are recorded by moving the real robot to them, with a teach pendant or by hand guiding, and storing each pose in the program.
- Robotics
In one sentence
Teach-in programs a robot by moving it to each position with the pendant or by hand and storing the poses in the program.
Example
After the fixture was replaced, the three placing positions were re-recorded by teach-in in manual reduced speed.
How it applies
- Engineering: Teach-in is simple and accurate relative to the real cell, since positions are taken where the robot actually is. It costs production time and becomes impractical for complex paths.
- Operation and safety: During teach-in people are close to the moving robot. Reduced speed, the Enabling device and Hold-to-run control principles apply; only trained persons should teach.
- Documentation: The documentation team should describe the teach-in procedure step by step, including mode selection, reduced speed, naming of positions and saving and backing up the changed program.
Teach-in vs. offline programming
Teach-in uses the real robot; Offline programming uses a virtual one. Many projects combine both: programs are created offline and key positions touched up by teach-in.
